ABOUT
ME
Hello! My name is Jack Kalan and I am an artist based out of St.Louis, MO. I recently graduated from Webster University’s Sargent Conservatory of Theatre Arts with a B.F.A. in Acting. As well as Acting, I hone my Stage Combat and Lightning Design skills whenever I can, working locally. I love to move and stay active, anything from going on a hike, to practicing my sword work to boxing in a gym. To me, life is all about different perspectives.
PROFESSION
Acting
I’ve been acting ever since I can remember. My parents always sang and danced with me until I could do it by myself. The first production I was ever in was Grease in 6th grade, I was Kenickie. Ever since then, the stage has felt like home to me. I am a huge Shakespeare fan; don’t be surprised if you catch me at the Renaissance Festival! I’m very intrigued by new works and love stories that push a moral truth forward. I was mostly recently seen in the Imaginary Theatre Company’s production of Puss In Boots, a local tour around Missouri! Jack’s most recent work was just at Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre in their production of A Christmas Carol.
Stage Combat
I am certified Actor Combatant with recommendations through the S.A.F.D (Society of American Fight Directors) in Broadsword, Hand to Hand, and Rapier & Dagger, Quarterstaff, Sword & Shield, and Single-sword. I’m also certified in Theatrical Firearms through the S.A.F.D. I was most recently the Fight Choreographer for Sargent Conservatory's production of Our Dear Dead Drug Lord directed by Amalia Perez.
Lighting
I specialize in Concert Dance and Stage Lighting and have been freelancing for the past 8 years. I’ve worked/designed shows with The Moody Performance Hall, Arts Mission Oak Cliff, STL Fringe Festival, Resilience Dance Company, Saint Louis Dance Theatre, Seen STL, Leverage Dance Theatre, New Line Theatre Company, and more! Come out and see New Line’s Production of Rocky Horror Picture this March!
ARTISTIC STATEMENT
"Jack Kalan is a disciplined, truthful, and lively actor who specializes in Stage Combat and Lighting Design to amplify different perspectives in humanity; so that he may walk in someone else’s shoes.”
